Welcome to Spanish history and culture- the forgotten roots of modern Spain

Spain is different. The more you look into it, the bigger it gets. The regions give up their individual characters, the cultures become more intriguing. Its music, language, and architecture suddenly becomes understandable when you remember that for around 600 years it was Muslim and violent "religious" wars rocked the peninsular.

Spain was for hundreds of years Muslim. It looked to North Africa. Its social habits are different, its culture is often hidden. The longer one lives here, the more intriguing it becomes. We are researching madly to bring you  the history about, just as a taster-

Mediaeval Castles (ruined ior restored) in Yeste, in Riopar Viejo, in Villares, in Siles, in Socovos

Ancient Arabic watchtowers-  accessed on the long distance hiking route called  "Ruta de Las Atalayas"

Renaissance churches- Elche de la Sierra, este, Riopar Viejo, Socovos.

Battlegrounds-  around the time of Christ, at  Elche de la sierra

Cave paintings at Nerpio

Romans- all over the place - including the roman aqueduct at Molinicos, the bridge at Ferez,  the roman baths  at the  spa baths and treatment centre Tus.

Iberians, Carthgenians, Romans........over two thousand years of broken pottery !-- on the mountain of  Peņa Rubia.

We are also researching the fascinating geology and archeology  of the Sierra del Segura, and the flora and fauna  of both the Sierra del Segura and the adjacent Sierra de Segura and Alcaraz.
