*In summer many villages have open air swimming pools where you can swim and sunbathe for around 3 euros a day !
*Almost all of the villages have bars and restaurants with traditional food such as tortilla, various tapas, game stew etc.
Everybody of every age seems to go out to eat! The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere invariably friendly.
*The whole region is well served by traditional specialist shops such as butchers, fruit and fish shops, and bakers, with friendly service and where you can usually park right outside ! Add to that, weekly markets, small supermarkets, and vans that call to your door in the small villages and its easy to see that life here is pleasant.
* The really big supermarkets such as Lidl, Mercadona can be found in Hellin. If the old fashioned way of life and convenience get boring, theres always the Ikea en route to Murcia about an hour from Elche de la Sierra and a Carrefour on the way into Albacete, again about an hour.
June to October is fiesta time and it is possible to party every weekend and enjoy the peace of the countryside during the week!
