the peņa dominates the landscape for miles aroundPenarrubia benefits from a Mediterranean climate and is set within open rolling countryside dotted with vineyards, almond plantations and olive groves. Some of the work is still done by donkey, and each day sees two- sorry, one- of them laden ready for work.

Even donkeys need a rest! One donkey used to take back the shopping- alone, if it got fed up of waiting. Donkeys, however, seem to take after mankind- the hurry eventually got to its poor  heart and it keeled over (with seņora owner on its back) going  -clearly too fast-  up a steep track last year.  Norra lorra people know that .......

Penarrubia property is very sought after, and property rarely becomes available. 
 
 The village is friendly, and fiestas are lively ! Penarrubia (Peņarrubia, to spell it correctly)  is a great location from which to discover the rest of the Sierra del Segura: the stunningly located spar centre/hotel and mountain village of TUS is approximately 40 minutes scenic drive away and the  tranquil reservoir of Fuensanta can be reached in less 10 minutes.
 
 Nestling at the foot of the ruby peak, Penarrubia is a scattered cluster of three or four well-preserved areas. With a thriving bar/restaurant and small hotel and a shop that sells all the everyday necessities. it is an ideal location for those wanting traditional village life and outdoor pursuits.
 
Penarrubia is named after a massive outcrop of rose coloured rock that has thousands of years of human habitation etched on its near-inaccessible summit. This dominant rock glows vibrantly and magically in the setting sun.
